This is a summary of the debate that took place in the DM forums, these are now the official rules for death on Kydor, please read them over - if anything hasn't been address, feel free to ask us.
These rules could change at some point, depending on how well they fit with the world we are looking to build, nothing is set in stone. Although as of right now, these are the rules.
The issue being Addressed: Death, respawning, permanent death & character vs character (PvP, PKing, etc).
No respawning.
When a character dies the XP penalty will depend on their level.
The XP Loss is as follows:
[ 300xp / Level ]
Level 1 - 300xp
Level 2 - 600xp
Level 3 - 900xp
Level 4 - 1200xp
[ 400xp / Level ]
Level 5 - 2000xp
Level 6 - 2400xp
Level 7 - 2800xp
Level 8 - 3200xp
Level 9 - 3600xp
Level 10 - 4000xp
Level 11 - 4400xp
Level 12 - 4800xp
Level 13 - 5200xp
Level 14 - 5600xp
Level 15 - 6000xp
Level 16 - 6400xp
Level 17 - 6800xp
Level 18 - 7200xp
Level 19 - 7600xp
Level 20 - 8000xp
If raised through the spell 'Ressurrection', the experience loss is halved - although the spell is rare and requires loss on the casters behalf to cast, too.
If you die while adventuring with a party, your character is sent to 'limbo' until raised, or chooses to pass onto the next world... Permanently - this means passing through a gateway in limbo, resulting in permanent death of the character.
If your character was killed by another player, they can be raised aslong as someone knows of the murder and where the corpse is... PKing is not taken lightly and you must have very good reason for killing another player - we all work hard on our characters, we don't want that hard work taken away from us without good reason.
If a characters corpse is dismembered, they can still be ressurrected, depending on the dismemberment - for example:
If a player had his/her arm hacked off during the battle, then died, then when ressurrected/raised the players arm will remain missing.
If a player was beheaded, then ressurrection isn't possible, -unless- the ressurrection is combined with a regeneration spell, allowing the head to become part of the body again. This also means if a player is missing his/her arm, it can be regrow at any time, aslong as the spell is cast on them.
There will be a 'Subdual Mode' item that can be used, if the character(s) dont intend to kill eachother. Lets face it, we all get pissed off from time to time and end up getting in brawls, not -all- PvP has to end in death. Although a DM must be notified for this to happen, so that NPC's - assuming some are nearby - can react as they should.
For one character to attack another, with intent to kill, permission -must- be sought from a DM, explaining your reasons for wanting to kill another character. Once a player has asked, it will be discussed amongst the DM team to allow/disallow the PK attempt. If a decision most be made on the spot, then DM's will be trusted to make them.
