Exactly. In the example i gave. The monestaryn full of priests. like, all but 3 of them ran away from the mob The point is though By running, and in your example, protecting themselves, is still going against their faith. Protecting themselves is the same as running. they are 'not' offering love. they are resisting the evil. not confronting it. The thing is. you are arguing my own beleife. I'm not one of these who would stand by and let myself be cut down. its against our nature. i dont think its wrong either. i dont think you can defeat evil by becoming it yourself. But there 'are' those who do. Lord Jesus Christ. did Jesus try to stop the romans nailing him to a cross? did he struggle and try to get away when they seized him? Did he preform a miracle, like turn his skin to stone so he could be free from pain? No. So if your priest does these things he is going against his faith. period. Not to say people dont. because they do. i know. But if this is your view. you should be a warrior priest, for lack of a better term. A priest who will offer his love and skills to help but doesnt beleive in allowing himself to be killed.. the fact is by sticking to the healers faith. You cant really operate like a normal character in nwn.

your right, you hit the nail on the head.
i was trying to adapt the class to work, somehow, but realistically, it cant be done and still be in the confines of the religion. therefore we have two choices. forget them, leave them to NPC's or people who dont mind having a lvl one character or, make a number of items that are awwarded to healers for the time they have played, and the quality of their roleplay. items that cast healing spells many times per day perhaps, purely curative spells. it will certainly be an unusual class, but still interesting i feel. opinions on that?

It has been proposed that there is an additional class allowed.
There is a type of healer priest that believes life is sacred, and this is all he thinks about. He has taken a vow never to harm a human life, but unlike a pacifict priest, he will protect the life of others whenever the cause is just. If bandits were to attack a town, it would be this priests duty to protect all life in danger. This can only really be decided by the priests views of good and evil, therefore this class would be open to both 'good' and 'evil' characters.
These priests are allowed to take full clerical levels and have no restrictions on their spell field ( except those which go against the setting) apart from those which damage others directly. They are also not allowed to cause direct physical harm to others.

Before we get ahead of ourselves This is still all only speculation. Myself and Boomer will be talking it over, probably tonight and come to a final, or at least a first conclusion. We 'really' dont want to set anything in stone, or categorise such a complex religon. Every priest will be subtly different. only the 'groups' will be categorised. The current religeous 'groups' in the city. Are the source priests of the temple, the pacifists. and the source knights. anything else is anybodies buisness. What needs to be decided is how each seperate priests powers will be decided... that said, we still havent allowed anyone the class. They 'are' restricted you know? We dont want magic running rampant through the town. and very few npc priests have power. By all means keep tossing about ideas but it is still speculation.

Alright, we've talked for some hours on and came to a conclusion for clerics:
In Kydor there are those blessed with something usually referred to as 'talent'. This could vary from having the ability to heal a person, regenerate lost limbs, to mind-reading and spirit flying - to other possible abilities, pending on what our wee imaginations can come up with.
These are the only people who are capable of moving forward to focusing their abilities, therefore becoming more focused in their talent, strengthing it. That is not to say that they have to be clerics, merely that the door is open for them. They aren't required to be healers, its whatever path they set on, but depending on the path they set on restricts what abilities are and aren't available to them.
Just to clarify, those with the talent are just as capable of being evil, as they are being good. There are those who serve the darkside in Ayden who have such abilities, but equally there are those serve the good side - such as our dear Priestess Ailaina who slaves all day, every day, to help out the citizens of Ayden.
Simply, your character being blessed - or cursed? - with the talent must be requested, therefore that means the cleric class is request-only. Perhaps we will open doors later for this class to be available by other means, through other sources of power, but for now this is how it is.
If anyone is found to have any such abilities, they are arrested instantly by the town Guard and brought to trial - where the Knights of the Source put them through a trial to determine the means of their power, if it is proven that the source has blessed them, they are set free, if they are found to acheive this magic by other means, then they are burned at the stake as demons or some such.
One such class is the sorcerer class. We have a history wrote out to explain the reasons behind a sorcerers powers, where it as born from, but that is not something we wish to be common knowledge - if your character is suddenly curious about why each time he/she becomes angry a slight flicker of fire leaps from their finger-tips, then they'd best get their heads down into some books and find out where these powers came from.
On that note, Sorcerers are not a requested class, they are free for all to use, but know that you will more than likely be in trouble if you start waving fireballs around the place - sorcerers are seen as a ticking time bomb, their powers tend to reflect their emotions, and when angry they can be rather... destructive. And they are beleived to draw their power from an evil power source, so they are purified by being burned at the stake.

Just on a side note: All these rules and restrictions aren't because we like being hard bastards, trying to rip the fun from the game. But we've all played Neverwinter Nights for alot of years now, and it is the same time and time again - the same spells, the same class, the same leveling up. This is all an attempt to make each class unique and more fun again, and make for an enjoyable RP envoirment. What if a Knight of the Source falls for a Sorcerer, and he/she comes out with the truth of their power? - that opens many doors of RP... Your character torn between duty and emotions. Does he/she turn their love in, or do they suddenly ask "Why are we burning these people? - i love this person and i have seen no inch of evil in them, why then do we burn these people?" which could lead to the Knight questioning the law and studying the reasons behind it, rather than going merely on blind faith. Just hope yous get the general idea of what we're getting at. PS: Not going to lock this, nor any time soon, i beleive. Feel free to comment and discuss, but at the moment we're pretty much sticking with this - our priority is the finishing touchs for Kydor, whether or not the words are wrote up on these forums, me and Tim have a solid visual of what we would like Kydor to be like, so don't worry too much on this information, we will fill in all gaps with time.

We will adress each cleric request indiviually as they arise. We dont want to categorise such a complex religion.
Another note. It is being considered to reject all applicants for magical classes, bar sorcerors for the first 'launch' so to speak. the whole reason we are altering all the classes in this way, like Boomer said, is because you dont need to be able to toss fireballs arouns or be half-demonblooded, son to a half-penguin god of Doom from the land of tir'nah'nog, to have fun.
That said after the wipe (details on that later, dont fret too badly about it). it is possible for these pre-made characters to become the magic-weilding characters you hoped for. Just bear with us for the time being and have faith ^.^

That raises a few questions. - Should Druids be handled as Clerics ? (i think they should) - What about spell casting Paladins? (Knights of the Source ?) - Whats the story on bards? - How do higher level Rangers fit in when they gain spells? - What is behind the Barbarians Wildshape ability. - Rogues and the Use Magic Item skill?

-Druids - yes. -Paladins/source knights receive their power from a 3rd source. (holy Relic in the temple) - Paladin is in effect restricted class to source knights. you begin as a fighter or ranger etc. -Bards as yet undecided -Rangers magic as yet undecided, rangers will be playable bar the magic side. -Barbarian wildshape??? do we mean druid wildshape? - undecided -Rogue UMD - undecided.
